Can you overcome self-sabotage?

self-sabotage

Self-sabotage is typical behaviour in people. So, it is when a person sabotages plans, hopes, and dreams. It can be challenging to recognise and overcome, but you can stop sabotaging yourself with time and effort. We specialise in helping people with this habit at iMetaWellness, so you can contact us if they are experiencing this problem.

What is self-sabotage?

Self-sabotage is a form of self-defeating behaviour defined as “the deliberate and often unconscious ways in which people deal with their discomfort, fear, or uncertainty.” It is often used to avoid the discomfort of change by keeping things the same.

Self-sabotaging can occur when setting out to deal with a problem makes it worse and adds more problems. For example, in depression, you may try to comfort yourself with junk food and become overweight, unhealthy, and interfering with your life, making yourself more depressed. This situation is often seen in many addictive behaviours.

Low self-worth leads to self-sabotaging.

Self-worth is the value a person places on himself. It can be influenced by their parents, friends, and other people, but it is also affected by an individual’s actions. Self-worth is important because it affects how confident an individual is and how much respect he has for himself. Low self-worth will lead to self-sabotaging; someone with low self-worth may put themselves down or become angry so they do not feel so bad about themselves!

Why can it be challenging to stop sabotaging yourself?

Self-sabotage can be a difficult habit to break. It is often easy to start criticising yourself and making excuses for why you do not deserve certain things, but these negative thoughts can be harmful in the long run.

This is because self-sabotage tends to feed on itself. So, for example, if you feel bad about yourself or others comment negatively about your appearance or behaviour, those feelings might push you into self-sabotaging even more.

If this frequently happens over time (especially if other people have encouraged it), we may start feeling like our whole life is one big disaster where nothing ever goes right!

How do we recognise self-sabotage and harmful internal scripts?

Recognising self-sabotage is the first step in stopping it. Unfortunately, it can be hard to remember when you are engaging in self-sabotage. Still, it would help if you did so because, without this awareness, you will not have any way to stop yourself from repeating these behaviours repeatedly.

Self-awareness is not easy. Most people do not know what they are doing until they have done it a few times—and even then, sometimes, we need to see something happen (like getting hurt) before we realise what is happening or how harmful our actions are for ourselves or others around us! So self-awareness is not just about recognising something terrible; it means being aware of your thoughts and feelings throughout all situations so that there is no excuse for acting out against yourself or others at any given moment.”

How to stop self-sabotage?

You must first be aware of them to stop self-sabotage and harmful internal scripts. Then, once you recognise them, it is important to challenge them. It may feel uncomfortable or even painful, but this is an essential step toward changing your behaviour and building self-esteem.
